It was a sunny morning at the Nissan plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria. Our guide, was methodical, detailed and chose his words carefully. Here was the crème d' la crème of the continent's motoring journalists and his words could make or break the brand. "Please don't photograph that just yet," he said, pointing at the Nissan NP200.

The 500km road from Mombasa to Nairobi is a perfect spot for testing a car. It offers a varied mix of surfaces, and especially now that part of it is being re-carpeted.

This car has always been the cheaper alternative to the Corolla. It has the same passenger capacity and will basically take you where a Corolla can. Question is, will it return? There is a popular notion that the Sunny is best as a town-only car and this can be explained by its suspension system.

The classic war treatise Art of War has 13 chapters, each devoted to one aspect of warfare. The aspects have been applied in modern business and military ventures, often with tremendous results. They include laying plans, waging war, attack by stratagem, manoeuvring and energy. These are being stealthy employed by Chinese car makers to break into a market dominated by Japanese and European cars. ERIC MWENI hopped from Dong Feng to Foton, Haojing to GWM, and brings you this report on Chinese motor vehicles in Kenya.

There is often something good about a car that motorists in the used car market rush for in droves. It may be the status the car projects, performance or pricing. The Pajero iO seemed to aptly serve these three.

Having never visited Russia or been a keen consumer of Vodka, MICHAEL MWAI was not sure how his date with the only automotive product from the land of Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili would turn out. He ended up cancelling his gym membership. Find out why.

Made in China’ has never meant so much in the last few years for motor industry. Every large motor manufacturer, including BMW and Mercedes have set their sights on this highly populated sub-continent to up their sales and increase marketshare. While they are looking in, China is looking at Africa as a growth area for affordable motor vehicles. The recent introduction of models like the Foton, Lifan, FAW and Gonow are a sign of what to expect.

There is something unsettling about riding a broomstick at 140kph. Not unless you are a wizard in Harry Porter. Actually, it’s foolish. You get this feeling that the broom will break at its chassis, blow away or disintegrate into smithereens.

It's a tomboy that combines the qualities of a beauty queen with the performance of a workhorse. Micheal Mwai takes her out for some salsa.

I grabbed the steering wheel, stared at the orange cones scattered across the ochre, smooth surface with a hint of contempt. A smirk of bravado formed on my face and my eyes glinted with heroism.
I was thinking to myself, “This will be piece of cake.. I will nail this exercise in no time.. What were these guys thinking, giving us such a simple task to prove we are ‘well seasoned motoring buffs’”?
