towing automatic gear cars

my friend over the weekend he learned not to tow his car when the gear is on drive, is it true the gear should be on neutral?

It would be safe to assume so! And by the way,those tow guys that are sent by cops to accident scenes charge sooooo much cash!They actually triple the kawa tow fees and feel nothing!! No wonder they arrive faster at accident scenes than ambulances!
