The global motor vehicle industry is in the doldrums. Sales have plummeted and the forecast over the next few months doesn’t look promising. Not a good way to end the year or welcome 2009. Traditionally, commercial advertising around this period is dominated by win-a-car promotions, perhaps a salient pointer to the fortunes of the industry. Now, the merchants are silent. We hope that by the end of this double issue of your favourite motoring magazine, the industry will have experienced a turnaround.
But this should not be reason enough not to celebrate the cheer that the holiday season brings. Many of us will be travelling to celebrate with friends and family and it’s important to heed several road safety precautions. Don’t drink and drive is the immortal one; ensuring your car is in optimum mechanical condition is just as important.
But what engine checks do you need to do before starting of? In case you don’t have a car and must hire one, what do you need to look out for? What are the best locally-available cars for off-roading? How do you choose a hotel to stay? We’ve attempted to answer all these questions in this edition.
Year 2009 comes with new exciting models for the used car market. As you will find out in one of our features, these cars are not only better looking but more powerful and post better fuel economy.
Mary Muthuri is an inspirational lady. She has been involved in two road accidents which left her blind. But her enthusiasm for life contains vital lessons on the merits of positive thinking.
