Two big events prove that Kenya's motoring scene has come of age. These are the Total Motorshow and Access Kenya Concours d'elegance. And age is a central, unpronounced theme with the two. While the Motorshow showcased what new car dealers have to offer, now and in future, Concours, coming up later this month will be a contest of the oldies; cars and bikes.

What started as a routine day recently turned into a professional test. We had been preaching about fuel economy on these pages and we finally had a chance to prove how well we understand the gospel.

CHEAPEST,QUALITY USED CARS IN KENYA
The global economic woes  have docked. Companies and individual enterprises, which oil the cogs of the new and used car market, are either folding or cutting on staff and salaries. The result? Fewer and fewer people can afford to buy cars. But if you have a few shillings to spare and have always wanted to own a car, this is the best time.

There is often something good about a car that motorists in the used car market rush for in droves. It may be the status the car projects, performance or pricing. The Pajero iO seemed to aptly serve these three.
Toyota RAV4

Two dominant players in the lifestyle market; two locally loathed engines. ERIC MWENI went bundu bashing and highway plunking with the Toyota Rav 4 (D-4) and Pajero iO (GDI) and tells you which is the lesser evil.

There is something unsettling about riding a broomstick at 140kph. Not unless you are a wizard in Harry Porter. Actually, it’s foolish. You get this feeling that the broom will break at its chassis, blow away or disintegrate into smithereens.

As Land Rover celebrates its 60th birthday, Michael Mwai looks at the then and now of an icon that has defied time

I took one look at the Land Rover line-up and was convinced that these were the warriors sent to protect their own. The Land Rover Defender is due for review again in 2010 but looking at the past 60 years, they might just throw in a more efficient engine and let us continue enjoying the ragged nature of this workhorse.
