Everybody remembers their first car. Actually, their first of everything: First love; first day at work; first pay cheque; first tipple; first kiss....   The novel experience is wired up our veins and subconscious minds.

The first car may have been a hand-me-down lemon, a showroom showpiece with a price tag that can fix Zimbabwe's economy, or a hustler's display of success. Somehow, the first car is a cruel initiation into the realities of owning a car.

It was a sunny morning at the Nissan plant in Rosslyn, Pretoria. Our guide, was methodical, detailed and chose his words carefully. Here was the crème d' la crème of the continent's motoring journalists and his words could make or break the brand. "Please don't photograph that just yet," he said, pointing at the Nissan NP200.

The Total Motorshow, held at the Ngong Race Course between August 28 and 30 was a showcase of the some of the latest models from the franchised new motor vehicle dealers. Though the dealers try to bring in the new models from the manufacturer, not all models vroom their way into our showrooms. We take a look at some of the cars we'd have wanted to see and why they were absent.
